Ala Lombolo
- One of Sweden's most polluted lakes
Introduction
How much of a pollutant that will be stored in a sediment is not a straightforward issue. The concentrations of a pollutant in a sediment is related to the composition of the sediment itself. The different sediment parameters affecting this relationship are the grain size distribution of the sediment, the mineralogy of these grains and the total organic content of the sediment. One could also argue that the energy level of the transporting medium, e.g. a river, can be put into relation to where a pollutant will be concentrated, i.e. whether it will be transported or accumulated.
